Susan Clements

Mistley Parish Council consists of 11 volunteer Parish Councillors and a part-time paid Parish Clerk/Finance Officer and a part-time paid Warden/Cleaner.
I was born and raised in Mistley, and I have enjoyed watching our village change and grow.
I studied Sociology at the University of Essex, and I am keen to expand my learning of how society can shape the individual. I completed my own research project "A Pint Of Girlsberg-Women in Pub Culture'', which was heavily influenced by my experiences of working in local pubs.
I previously worked in the NHS in an administrative capacity, and I now work in administration for Acorn Village, a charity that supports adults with learning disabilities, and Port in A Storm, a mental health charity as a crisis support worker.
I have always been interested in politics, and I wanted to join the Parish Council to get a better understanding of how our community works, and get involved in more local projects.
"I was born in Mistley and have lived here all my life. Most people know me. I am retired and have been on the Council for about 13 years. During this time I have steered and tried to help people with various issues which have arisen. I have been an active volunteer for Swan Watch for the last 15 years"
"I am retired from my role as an Area Sales Manager in medical sales and want to put something back into the community I have retired to. My career background is in medical sales to hospitals dealing with consultants, management and other medical professionals. I am an active member of the local Rotary club and the sailing club. My greatest claim to fame is organising and working on the clearing of the path along the Walls. I am the communities’ officer for Rotary. I enjoy history, sport (watching nowadays), and walking."
We moved to Mistley in 1979 and since retiring from a Social Work & Management career with Essex County Council, I have pursued interests in archaeology and local history, working as part of Manningtree Museum, writing a number of booklets and giving tours and talks. I am a trustee and treasurer of Mistley Village Hall.
My aim on the council is to see the creation of a Neighbourhood plan, working with other parishes in order to take more control of local housing development ensuring we have a variety of homes to meet local needs and create good supportive communities with all the facilities needed.
My name is Chris Halliday and I have lived in the Tendring area since 1985, and lived here in Mistley for the last 19 years. I have previously worked as a Benefits & Revenues Officer within Tendring District Council from 1989 to 2005, then worked at Thames Coastguard at Walton on Naze, until it’s closure a year later, with centralisation to Southampton. I am passionate about equal opportunities for all, my local community, and the area we live in too.
I hope to be involved in local improvements and events, for the good of all, encouraging local participation.
"As a working parent with young children the Council allows me the flexibility to fit my contribution around the needs of my family and work. I am interested in providing improvement facilities and equipment to encourage inclusion and community fun. I am also interested in keeping the Village safe.”
I have lived in Mistley since 2021 having moved from Romford and it has been the best decision our family made.
I am a Chartered Management Accountant, currently working as a Commercial Finance Manager for a Ladies fashion retailer in London. I have been a Justice of the Peace since 2011, currently sitting at Ipswich Magistrates Court and have previously been a Chair for an Alternative Education Charity in Romford. I have always been keen to support young people to realise their potential and look to support the community to enjoy this very unique Parish.
"I have lived in Mistley for nearly 47 years, having played football for Mistley United F.C. and cricket for Mistley Cricket Club, and am now a social member of the Rugby Club. My working life has been spent in coal fired and Nuclear power stations, generating electricity for the National Grid. When the Covid restrictions were lifted in early 2022, I joined the team of the Manningtree Community Bus as a Driver, which brings me into contact with the residents of Lawford and Manningtree and increases my contact with the friendly faces in Mistley. With the Parish Council, I would try to maintain Mistley as the very pleasant place for us to live now, and for generations in the future."
"Retired ex retail commercial and marketing director. Lived in Mistley for 8 years, keen on cars, walks, swimming, cycling and restaurants and helping out where I can”.
"I have lived in Mistley since 1966. I have worked for the Parish Council as Warden for over 16 years and took on the cleaning role more recently. My late mother, Aggie Forrester, was a Parish Councillor for 27 years and a great inspiration to me. I am passionate about the village and my aspiration is to continue to keep Mistley as a wonderful place to live for the benefit of all."
